If you’re anything like me you have read countless articles about how to boost your confidence. Some of the ideas seem profound some simplistic and as you try them out you feel momentary energized but, the feeling is short lived at best. I have read to smile even when you don’t feel like it – I had trouble carrying this charade on for any minimal amount of time and felt down on myself when I failed therefore it had the negative effect.
Reading my subscription to Chatelaine (thanks mom) I read an article entitled “How to Overcome your Insecurity” (link at end of article) The article is an exert from the Book The Tools by Phil Stutz and Barry Michels in which they outline 5 tools you can use to overcome insecurity, negativity, resentment, anxieties even procrastination. The article highlights “Inner Authority” in which our insecurities always follow us like a “Shadow” and instead of hiding from our shadow we need to bond with our shadow in order to become fearless.
To paraphrase the authors visualize your insecurities as a person – in brief mine slouches, has coke bottle glassed, acne, braces and a retainer (wasn’t high school cruel?) and imagine you are on a stage and bond with your “shadow”. Once you have bonded with your shadow you are fearless!
Going through the steps they outlined I felt more confident. I repeated the steps while I was standing in line beginning to feel anxious and it actually worked I felt myself relax. Never has something worked so instantaneously and consistently – I can’t believe I haven’t heard about this before! I literally went to the book store the next day and bought it. I’m on the 4th step right now and I have already put myself out there more and made some phone calls I’ve been avoiding.
Plus Its acclaimed by Dr. Oz so you know it has to be good!
